Maybe not for all dogs
So my dog was thoroughly enjoying his elk antler. I mean loved the damn thing. Couldn’t get enough of it. We monitored his time with the antler about 15-20 minutes a day. Well we just got back from the emergency animal clinic because my wife found a piece of the bone lodged in his gums. The shard was about 3/8 of an inch long or so. They had to put him under and cut his gum open a bit inorder to get the shard out. So I guess when determining whether or not you want your dog to chew on an elk bone you have to decide $15 or $232 and above all the safety of you fuzzy friend. Though he is going to miss it we will be an antler/bone free home. Take what I have to say however you’d like I’m just letting you know my experience and hope of you do buy this product nothing happens to your fuzzy friend.

My dog loves it, I just wish it was thicker
I really like elk antler for my puppy for a few reasons-First, it takes him much (much, much, much) more time to go through than rawhide bones. Although a single antler is more expensive than 5 rawhides, I think the value is still tipped in the favor of the antler as it barely looks like he's gotten that far on the antler, even after a couple weeks (which is all it would take for him to go through several rawhide bones).Second, they don't make my dog stink like rawhide bones do.Third, and most importantly, he loves the antlers! The reason I've taken off a star (and I strongly considered removing 2 stars) is because I think a lot of the variation in the reviews of this product comes from the variation in the piece of antler sent. If you're sent a piece from the bottom of the antler (i.e. where it attaches to the head), then the antler is much thicker (but it should be the same length as these are sold by length, not weight) but if you get sent a piece from the top of the antler, where the point is, then the piece you're sent is much skinnier. This makes it last much less time and causes some concern for your dog biting through the antler and cutting (sharp) pieces off. Unfortunately, I got one of these top, skinny pieces. It isn't a huge problem, but I do feel like I need to watch him more closely while he's chewing on it to ensure he doesn't break anything off into his mouth (and swallow it).

I want to shake that Elks...hoof?...for this awesome thing!
When our aggressive chewer german shepherd lab mix widdled down her first unicorn horn from when we got her from the rescue place (elk antler, but in our house, it's a unicorn horn)...we needed a replacement fast! Found this brand, seemed like a great size for her growing teeth and slapped my knee and said - by golly that there is one nice looking unicorn horn replacement. Got it fast with prime. We unboxed it. Our 8 month old pup took one look and immediately sat for her new toy. She has.not.stopped.playing with it! She throws it around, she whips it up in the air and catches it. She loves this so very much. The pictures I attached is about a week after first gnaw.As a side note...this company made my day with every email they sent. I laughed, I shared the email and laughed some more. Great to see a company with a sense of humor. I would love to try more things from them knowing they have the gumption to think of such fun ways to reach out to their customers. Keep on keepin' on Pet Parents.

ANTLER PIERCED MY DOG’S INTESTINES - DON’T BUY
If I could give this product zero stars, I would. My dog weighs 38 pounds and I ordered a large antler, which according to the description was actually a size bigger than my dog actually required. My dog was given this antler and within 70 minutes he’d eaten half. It was not durable whatsoever. My dog has had many antlers in the past from other companies and he’s never once been able to even make a dent in them after months of chewing. I took the antler away from my dog (which was down to less than half of its original size) and set it aside. A few days later he started acting strangely and vomiting. I took him to the vet once where they thought it was most likely a virus and told me to monitor him closely in case his symptoms worsened. Over the weekend our puppy continued to decline and vomit with no interest in food or water. I took him back to the vet on Monday where x-rays were done. He has a severe blockage and required emergency surgery. The surgeon had to take out 12 inches of intestine which was splintered with pieces of this antler poking through. He then had to spend the night at an emergency vet clinic for the night and has spent 3 days at his regular vet’s office under close supervision. He’s having a hard time rebounding from surgery due to the severe nature of the procedure. I’m livid and disgusted with this company. If my medium sized dog can chew through a large antler in such a short time frame, what does that say about the quality? I now have vet fees of over $4,000, not to mention the agonizing pain my dog has been in. I fully intend on contacting a lawyer and seeing what legal action I can pursue.

A Not As Expected Item
Be aware that this "large" antler is the smallest one we have ever gotten on Amazon. As its image and description is absolutely correct in that it is indeed 6 1/2" and it is the tip of antler it is NOT a "not as described" item. It is exactly what it shows so we should have taken that into more consideration. Even on a lightening deal this antler is not anywhere close to the value of previous purchases we have made on Amazon such as this one from Best Bully Grade-A Large Whole Elk Antler Dog Chew (1 Antler) Sourced in the USA . With this antler base being only 1 1/8" and the tip being at 3/8" it is the smallest "large" antler we have ever gotten for our border collie. Probably won't last very long before he decimates it based on how long it takes him to completely destroy much thicker "large" antlers. Lesson learned. Based on image and description the next time it appears that Best Bully will be our choice on next order.

Great for aggressive chewers
I have a Pitbull that can chew and destroy anything you give him. I was skeptical about spending money on something else for him but am so glad I did. He LOVES this thing, chewed on it for 2 hours the first day we gave it to him and now chews on it at least an hour out of the day. He wore it down some but no pieces are coming off and it does not make a mess at all. We will be purchasing again in the future!
